President George's Message:

The club forum has been and gone. I thank all the Directors for the part they played. While it was great to hear what they have planned and some of the thoughts from there committees it was more important to hear your feedback. I am sure the Directors have listened to what you have had to say.

It was also a good opportunity to have the members ask questions and make comments about the proposed new club. If anyone has any further questions or comments to make in regard to the proposed new club please feel free to ask me.

I was unable to travel to Tititea this weekend due to an elderly Aunt’s birthday but I am sure they will have had a good weekend with some great weather

We have the Koru Trio coming up on the 13th October and if you have not already got your tickets please see Deans. The money raised from this is going to Shelter boxes and ERKs.

Remember also the Jazz evening on the 30th which will be a great night.

New club member Viv Milson has just written a book,

The Vineyards of Central Otago: A Passion for Winemaking on the Edge.

Viv featured in the media last week. Here is a snippet of the article in the Wanaka App by Maddy Harker.

Viv Milson: Exploring the world of wine

Viv’s Milsom’s Sunday dinners growing up in Dunedin were often accompanied by a glass of wine. Her father, a wine and spirit merchant, would often bring home imported wines to taste. Before New Zealand wines were on the map - or even being made - the only way to get a good wine was to drink the imported varieties.

Viv has spent the past ten years living in Wanaka working as a freelance writer, after beginning her professional career as a television and radio news journalist and later moving into secondary school education. The return to Wanaka and writing (Viv visited for ski holidays as a child) also drew Viv back to wine - and she’s just written a book all about it. But instead of imported wines, the book celebrates the wines made right here in Central Otago.

The Vineyards of Central Otago: A Passion for Winemaking on the Edge, is Viv’s first book. The luxurious hardback coffee table book tells the stories of Central Otago’s vineyards, and the people whose passion for the industry has made the region a wine destination.

The Vineyards of Central Otago: A Passion for Winemaking on the Edge  will be available from October 1 and the launch will be held on October 10 at Rippon Hall. Tickets are available at Paper Plus Wanaka.

She will also be the 3 min speaker for tonight.

NZ Clean Up Week Report 10 -15 September 2018

There were a number of local groups who participated in this years NZ Clean Up Week. Our Club’s contribution was coordinating two groups from the Holy Family School. The school successfully tidied up an area around Sticky Forest and Peninsula Bay, and a second group tackled the Waterfall Creek Track.

A couple of Rotarians also collected an assortment of rubbish from the roadside of Cardrona Valley Road, and along the other main highway into town between Halliday/Morris Roads and the Hawea turn-off and on the main road by the airport.

In total, the above groups collected more than 50 kg of rubbish.

So a big Thank You please to all those that helped!

TITITEA LODGE

Wanaka Rotary members headed off to Tititea Lodge in the Matukituki Valley for the annual clean up.
We arrived around 10.30am and could see the battering the lodge had sustained from the storm that hit last Tuesday. It was a beautiful day and everyone set to work with gusto. There was a lot to do.
The main event of the day was the 1pm delivery of the new water tank by helicopter, impressive! It was a 14 man (including some women) lift to get the tank in place.
By day end, the lodge and grounds were looking respectable. Some members had to return to Wanaka but others stayed on to enjoy the ambience overnight.

It was gratifying to know that the hard work would benefit members of the community who would use the premises in the coming summer period.

Well done Rotary!

Apologies for the late Bulletin!
