Greatest Motoring Adventure on the Planet

Daza Sherwin- “The Greatest Motoring Adventure on the Planet” (The Mongol Rally)

We were well entertained by Daza Sherwins adventure showing his and his fellow adventurous mate’s trip from England through Europe and into the east via Turkey and the “Stan Countries” to end at Ulan-Ude, a town in Siberia.

This was a true adventure starting from the purchase of a second hand Suzuki 4WD in England on the internet sight unseen for a mere 1,500 GBP and then modifying it to store their kit surfing gear so they could use along the way set the scene. This was a true number 8 Kiwi style adventure where having run out of money on the last legs of the journey with the vehicle sick from a midnight crash, and time taken to make temporary repairs they proceeded to use snickers bars to barter their way through checkpoints and borders.

Unfortunately the presentation was interrupted by computer glitch which meant we were not able to see all the photos of the journey but the descriptions provided by Daza were sufficient to keep us well entertained and informed.

Daza promises to return and talk about their next adventure.

MAY IS YOUTH SERVICES MONTH!

Rotary Club

Wanaka

On behalf of all members of the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust I am writing to thank you and the Wanaka Rotary Club so much for your donation to The Children’s Medical Trust. Your generosity in supplying, free of charge, the use of your eftpos machine for our successful quiz fund raising evening was very much appreciated.

The value of the Trust is now recognised in our community but it is only with assistance from members of our community that we are able to provide financial help to local families who are in a difficult position because of their children’s health. The number of applications we continue to receive clearly demonstrate the need of our Trust. To date we have assisted 225 young families in our district.

The quiz evening was a great success so our thanks again to the Wanaka Rotary Club Members.

Regards

Pam Horne (Secretary) Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust
