GUEST SPEAKER: Derek Valentine, 40 Years of Control !

Derek gave us some insight into what it takes to live with Diabetes! Interesting to note that some of us, share the same affliction or know of someone similarly challenged. In the dim dark ages one had to self inject/medicate and also be   very organised with diet. These days there are monitoring devices to  help determine insulin levels though diet remains a major factor in controlling diabetes. Thank you Derek for sharing with us!

Matt Franks our UK Rotary correspondent, - great to hear about his exploits!

Matt has been out and about enjoying the cultural & sight seeing scene in London and Europe. He went with 'English Rose', Sarah to see the Rolling Stones and consequentially over the months since his last email has visited

Prague, Amsterdam, Turkey and Edinburgh. He loved Turkey and spent 5 days there with Aussie mate Felix, visited some mosques, ate a few kebabs, did the Bosphoros Cruise and went to the Grand Bazaar.  Edinburgh and Prague, he also enjoyed but interestingly enough he could happily have missed Amsterdam.  He has invested in a few accessories, namely a carpet, possibly a sword and paintings. Matt also managed to flit to Gallipolli and has some stones from Anzac Cove as keepsakes. After all the travelling, he has settled down to some work in Newcastle and as Finance Manager, is intervening in shutting down a practice which may involve client account shortfall.

Is he coming back? Who knows, as he is about to skip off to Yorkshire for a week! He writes that he needs to re-assess his list of things to do. Good Luck Matt and do it while you can!
