Tuesday 24th April 2018  - President Fran's Message:

ART IN THE PARK – What a success story! Thanks to Tabatha & Jamie Wilson for the use of their property at 196 Maxwell Rd. The property looked fabulous and the autumn colours were gorgeous! There was approx. 658 people through the gates. The food, wine, artists and musicians, all contributed to a good day despite the threat of RAIN which did not happen! Yeh!  A massive thanks to the Rotarians who turned out to help – there were as usual STAND OUT stars.
From the Art in the Park team it’s a heartfelt thank you from us.

Membership Satisfaction Survey – Time to concentrate on the Results of the Survey which have been correlated. Moving forward, a date will be set allowing time for Rotary members to peruse and with discussion to follow. 8th May has been proposed for this date, TBC.

Magazine Recycle – At reception

Mountain Biking Sunday – It was a Clean up day for Art in the Park – next week?

Friends of Rotary (FOR) – The is a core of 5 people now. If you have anyone interested in helping us out at our fundraising events, then let me know. FOR is a good way for interested parties to get to know how the Rotary Club works. This could lead to more members.  Rest assured that these FOR’s have been asked to participate in fundraising events since they signed up. To date, none of the FOR’s have been able to help out due to other commitments.

Rotary Winter Bowls

Each year our club has entered a team in the Thursday night Indoor Bowls Social Competition

The team consists of 3 players each night on a rostered basis and is mostly made up of non bowlers (beginners) both male and female

It commences at 7pm and is over by 10pm. It is purely social with a touch of competitiveness.

There are prizes for the winning team on the night. The cost per player is $8 each night payable to the Bowling Club for the use of their facilities and includes the use of Club bowls. A light supper is provided.

2018 Season commences on Thursday 17th May.

If you are interested in being rostered to play, please contact Peter Harridge 443 8957.

Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange

We are looking to gauge interest for the Wanaka Club to host an inbound student for the 2019 year. This would commence in January, and as a starting point we would be looking for at least 3-4 host families, and probably one further as a back-up. Given information from the district co-ordinator, this would most likely be a female student, given applicants wanting to come to NZ. Would also be interested in any further feedback or suggestions from other club members, as it does involve the wider club in hosting a student.

 Thanks in advance

Saturday May 19th 6.00pm

Last year the social committee ran a very successful progressive dinner involving Rotarians and their partners but this year we have decided to revisit an earlier idea which has a mystery element and also allows people to mix with others outside their geographical location.

The idea is that 2 people host a dinner for 4 other mystery guests. This could be a couple or 2 separate people that choose to host together.

The hosts responsibility is to provide the venue and serve a main course .

Each set of 2 guests will be responsible for bringing the starters or dessert and of course refreshments.

The fun part is that the hosts have no idea who is coming to dine and the guests will not know until late that afternoon where they are going.

We are not expecting people to prepare 5 star meals as the whole point of the evening is to meet up with and enjoy the company of other Rotarians and their partners in a different environment.

All you need to do is sign up on the list being circulated at Rotary or ring Pam 021328284 and choose whether you would rather host or be a guest.

The rest will be organised for you and you will be contacted with the necessary details.

Cheers

Social Committee
