To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
Congratulations to Geoff McLeay and his willing band of helpers for a fantastic duck race on Saturday . A huge amount of work goes into this signature event which gives a large amount of kudos to the WANAKA Rotary Club and contributes a lot of funds which help us do great works on the community . Awesome photo and article in the ODT today also . I hope that our esteemed bulletin editor ( Ron Cousteau Horner ) was able to fit into his wet suit and that tightness in certain areas has not raised his voice too many octaves !!
I was absent having spent the weekend track marshalling at Highland Park -didn’t win the Lamborghini Huracan which is not surprising as I didn’t have a ticket !!
Looking forward to the Melbourne Cup night on Tuesday brilliantly organized ( as usual ) by Chris Wright and good luck for someone having the winning horse .
Pat Heffernan provided the Club with good publicity by having an article in Valda Cortez’s weekly missive regarding his work to have books and library shelving sent to the school Vanuatu which he helped to build .
Next Tuesday the 14 Nov is Committee meetings so we won’t be back at The Albie for a while . As I mentioned there were couple of “ teething problems “ ( speed of food service and sound system ) which are both being addressed .I have made a “ Presidential decision “ ( taking a leaf out of Donald Trump’s system !!) to authorize Ron to purchase a speaker for the club which will combine with our current microphones plus having its own to overcome the sound issue .

October 31st. Andrena Davis: Event Manager Warbirds over Wanaka
Andrena Davis gave Rotarians a brief history of her career and how she came to her present position As W.B.O.W Event Manager. A keen aviator she first got involved in the Wings over Wairarapa Air Festival for several years and shifting to Wanaka she contacted Ed Taylor about assisting in some role, she was offered the recently vacant Event Manager position.
Andrena took us through the last years with Covid cancellations and organising aircraft for next year's event. A event which our Rotary Club will again be involved.
Here's hoping for the North American P51D Mustang; The FU4 Corsair and the F35 Lightning from Australia???

“I would like to make a special mention of the entire team that made this event a success. Thanks to you, the event was a financial success, but perhaps more importantly I see both the duck race and best dressed competition as a showcase event for our Club and Rotary in general. It was wonderful to see perhaps 300 people in and around Dinosaur Park on Saturday morning. For me personally, it was the joy from seeing the children of Wānaka with huge smiles and full of joy and happiness.
I recognise the time everyone contributed to ensure we delivered what’s expected of our Club and l look forward us building on this in 2024. Your cheerfulness and diligence are highly cherished and much treasured. Thank you all. We have all earned a rest!”

Friday evening drinks at the Milburn's
The first of the Friday Night Summer Hosting's was held at John and Jen Milburn's on the 4th Friday in October.
A great evening it was with some Halloween high-jinks and tall tales. Many thanks to Jen mad John for kicking off these evenings .
The Inaugural Sunday morning Rotary Bike Ride
Despite some early morning rain this event took place with five intrepid cyclists cycling the loop out to Albert Town and back via the Outlet Track.
In the shadow of Mt Iron another Rotarian was passed walking when she could have been part of the team. Getting fit for the Hump Ridge Track does not cut it Nikki!
The ride was capped off by a scone and coffee in town in much improved weather.
Well done Peter Borrie for organising this morning.

My name is Dan Griffin and I was diagnosed with stage four cancer in October last year and given 6-18 months to live. One year on I am doing far better than expected due to immunotherapy which is costing my young family $17,000 per monthly treatment. I have two boys aged 7 and 4 and along with my wife Erin they are my motivation to fight this cancer into remission.
I have been told that would take a miracle but to me immunotherapy is that miracle. As a family we have now spent $100,000. I went to Mt Aspiring College and lived in Wanaka but have moved to Te Anau as Real.NZ offered me a job here when I was working for Cardrona. Real.NZ has kindly given me a cruise in Milford Sound on Saturday the 18th of November at 3.15pm to sell to raise funds.
I am asking for your help to publicize this in the Wanaka community via your club. We have the opportunity to sell 400 tickets at $200 per person which includes a welcome drink once onboard and canapes. The cruise will run longer than 2 hours if weather permits.
I am hopeful to speak to the Te Anau Rotary Club as well as Lions to get as much reach as possible. I can also do the same if your club.
