As President even when you are away on holiday Rotary follows you. I have had a number of emails about a range of topics which have had to be dealt with. Thanks to those that have filled my role as president while I have been away. The main reason for the trip was the 90th birthday party of Mary’s mother. I then took the opportunity to walk the 3 capes walk over. 4 days a fantastic walk and I had great weather. Now we are in Melbourne with family and home on Sunday.
Next week we have the Tasmanian Personal Development team in Wanaka for three days and they will be at Rotary on Tuesday night to give a presentation. Look forward to a good attendance to hear about the wonderful island of Tasmania.
The following weekend is conference in Oamaru and there is a good number of members going from the Wanaka club. The 1st of May is the next Directors meeting - so if you have anything to raise let me know prior to the meeting.
While I am not sure what has happened at the meetings while I have been away it has been raised again about the member/s who whistle to help get the attention of members after I have rang the bell. It has been suggested that it is not becoming of a Rotary meeting. I suggest that it is equally rude to continue talking after the bell has been rung. It has been suggested that I do not ring it hard enough but I have also had complaints that when I put the mic near the bell it is too loud. I am not sure I can win this one.
Just to clarify the gift ( wine or pen) to guest speakers, for members thanking them. It has been agreed at administration committee that the bottle of wine is not for members speaking or for someone promoting a cause or a paid employee of an organisation . They are to receive a pen. The bottle of wine is for people giving of there time to tell us what they are doing or involved with.
Look forward to seeing you on Tuesday
Regards, President George

16 April - Wheels at Wanaka Easter 2019 - Traffic Mangement Briefing
Pictured: Britt Hawes(Events manager - volunteer co-ordinator) and "Traffic" Trev Page and our very own "two hats" Wallace. Wheels at Wanaka sounds amazing with 1,800 vehicle entries, and 50 acres of exhibits - and some fantastic Rotarian's will be there to assist with safe entry and exit of traffic at the venue!

Let's end polio now! I will be giving the campaign a big push for the year. A t-shirt for every day of the week plus some. I think the collection will be bigger after the next year!
Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.
We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.
The Rotary Foundation reaches mothers and children in need by giving communities the help and training they need to take control of their own maternal and infant health care.
Rotary makes amazing things happen, like:
Mobile prenatal clinics
Haiti has the highest maternal and infant mortality rate of any country in the western hemisphere. Rotary provided a fully equipped medical Jeep to volunteers and midwives to reach mothers and children in remote areas.
Cancer screening
Rotarians provided a mobile cancer screening unit and awareness trainings around Chennai, India, where there is a high mortality rate of women with breast and cervical cancer due to late diagnosis.
Preventing injuries and deaths
Rotary members launched a $3 million, five-year pilot to save lives of mothers and children during home deliveries in Nigeria. Since 2005, they’ve also repaired 1,500 obstetric fistulas — 500 more than their initial goal — restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable mothers.
