Tuesday 12 June 2018 - President Fran's Message:
Tamaki Makau-rau (Auckland) - It’s been awhile since I’ve spent any time there! What a city with the skyline decorated with property development cranes for as far as the eye can see! They are a major ‘Sculptural’ statement on the Auckland Skyline! My eyes were subject to a gymnastic work out as I navigated the downtown and urban traffic system. I was told that it was QUIET!
The AB’s v French game was electric, especially in the 2nd half. The win by the AB’s on Saturday bodes well for the next 2 tests! Lucky, those members who are going to Dunners.
Wanaka Pool - I was unable to attend the opening but Margaret West & George Scott ably represented the club on Sunday. I am told that there may be other opportunities for the Club to help with further donations. See more......
Potential Members: Great to see Viv Milsom and Bruce Steenson come along to pre-drinks and then meeting at the Golf Club. There’s a whisper out there that there are 3 -4 others circling!
Guest Speaker
Mat Woods, delivered an excellent presentation about the development of the Cardrona Alpine Ski Resort. The development has also involved summer activities: namely, further upgrading of the mountain biking trails and the use of low slung 'bike karts' (for a buzz!). The Chondola has increased the skier traffic on McDougall's which means that the beginner skiers remain in this area, thus keeping skier numbers down in the other areas. This is a major achievement for Cardrona. If you haven’t been up for some time, it sounds as though we may have to get a group of members together and go sight-seeing, skiing or riding in the summer! I know there has already been a preliminary inquiry about booking the accommodation for a group get together. That would be good. WATCH THIS SPACE!
