It was another great night at Rotary last week with a number of members who have been in the club for some time give a three minute talk on their lives. I came away thinking what a wide range of skills and talents we have with in the Wanaka Rotary club. We come from many different backgrounds and our lives have been filled with different experiences. Both here in Wanaka and when I was a member of the Gore Rotary Club I have appreciated the opportunity to seek a comment or advise from a fellow Rotarian.
Thank you to the Rotarians who helped out with the collection over the weekend at New World. I understand at least one Rotarian forgot she had put her name down and will have a date with the sergeant this Tuesday.
Richard has sent out an email asking for volunteers to help at the Farmlands tent on Wanaka Show weekend. If you are able to help please go online and choose a time slot that suits you.
Last night I was invited to the Charter Night for the Aspiring Rotary Club. It was a great night to catch up on some of the old faces from the Wanaka Rotary Club and see many new Rotarians also. I wish them well with their fundraising and activates. While some healthy competition is good, hopefully in the future we can also work together fundraising for some projects that may be too big for either of us.
Looking forward to this week’s speaker and seeing you all at Rotary on Tuesday.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO PUT THOSE APOLOGIES IN ON TIME.
Regards, President George

Hi! We are Joe and Verity, and we are cycling from the UK to India.
We are cycling from London through 15 countries and covering at least 5000 miles to visit Magic Bus, an education and gender equality charity based in Mumbai. Please see our JustGiving page to donate direct to Magic Bus. See our blog for updates and more frequent photos on our Instagram!
Dear Mr President,
I am writing on the off-chance that your Rotary Club might be able to help. I am a member of the Rotary Club of Bathavon, here in the UK; my son and his wife have just completed a cycle ride from Felsted School in Essex to Mumbai to raise funds for the Magic Bus charity in India. They have had such a great time that they are now cycling from Mandalay in Burma to Singapore; and then their plan is to cycle from Auckland to Wanaka where they hope to finish/celebrate with two months of skiing before returning to work and reality back in the UK in July or August. For most of their trip they have 'wild camped' and stayed very cheaply. This might be impossible in Wanaka in the winter so I am wondering if any of your club members have themselves, or know of anyone who has, a studio/spare room/shed/garage they might rent out for a bit, possibly mid June-mid August. Joe and Verity would be delighted to talk to your club about their experiences and you might enjoy this link: http://www.byjovebybike.co.uk/ Although they look a tad dishevelled in the blog they scrub up well. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
On 23 February 1905, Paul P. Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram E. Shorey gathered in Loehr’s office for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting.
Harris’ desire for camaraderie among business associates brought together these four men and eventually led to an international organization of service and fellowship.
