To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
It's not just politics in which a week, or a fortnight is a long time. 4WD trip, Melbourne Cup inspired fun, rain, more rain and enough water in the lake to cause the postponement of the Duck Race! Then our monthly round of committee meetings, tonight the club's directors meet and tomorrow it's back to The Albie; remember that place!
Amongst much of this activity I continued with my 3 generations with a Singaporean family, tour of the lower South Island. I was on the West Coast when it rained, luckily leaving Franz Josef the morning of what turned out to be their heaviest rain day ever, a bit over 400mm. Through the Otira Gorge was wet, very moody clouds on the other side and a brilliant hot norwester day by the time I got to Christchurch - amazing country we live in!
We're heading towards Christmas, but we've still got several key dates coming up, our AGM on December 3rd, the Foundation Auction on December 10th, and on the Saturday in between, our Christmas Party; the theme for which involves you dressing in something reminiscent of your favourite country - a chance to give that Hawaiian shirt or Tam o' Shanter an outing, maybe even the banana patterned shirt and shorts from Vietnam or, if it still fits, your lederhosen outfit that seemed a good idea when you joined the fun at Oktoberfest!
Hoping to see you all tomorrow night at The Albie when Mark Watson the manager of Wanaka Mitre 10 will reflect on their move to 3 Parks - the joys of upscaling!

Instructions for seeing when your period of Leave (multiple apologies) ends:
Click on the For Rotarians Tab, the right hand one in the yellow coloured strip across and near the top of the page.
Then click up on the Notifications Report tab that pops up.
At that stage you'll be asked to Login to ClubRunner, the club management software we use. You'll need your user name ( probably "Firstname.Familyname.13202" unless you've had Julian Warren give you something else) and your password to Login - there are forgot password and forgot username options, or Webmaster Julian will be able to help.
Once logged in, a page called Reports Apologies and Guest Notifications will pop up
On the last line you'll see tabs to either view the report document, or to download PDF file - and there you will see what's recorded for all of us, including you.

I just want to let you know that the Soiree at Tate’s is fully booked! We have had a terrific response.
Those of you, who are coming, please bring a bottle of wine & a plate of finger food of your choice. The Soiree starts at 6pm with the music starting at 6.30pm.
We will listen to the beautiful sounds of piano and flute, from members of the Aspiring Chamber Ensemble with, visiting flautist, Mary Affleck from Millers Flat. Here’s to a night of Haydn, Debussy, Gershwin and some familiar traditional tunes.

Melbourne Cup afternoon
Once again held at B.Social, Rotarians enjoyed refreshments and snacks as we watched Knights Choice win the 2024 Melbourne Cup. A rank outsider paying Au$91 for the win, it even surprised ticket holder Deans Hudson who had to rush from his couch down to B. Effect to collect his prize.
Amongst others, notable winners for best dressed included Roger Hamilton and Noelene Harridge.

Julian seemed to think that for much of the journey his car wasn't going into four-wheel drive. Consequently, I was stressed, terrified and hanging on for grim death with no hands free to take photos! If you didn't see Moving Houses, available on TVNZ One on Demand, episode1 of season 3, have a look. It's about transporting a house along The Nevis Road and showcases the terrain we covered on day one. Absolutely fantastic, can't imagine why I was scared!
The highlight for me was the beauty and scale of the remote emptiness we traversed. The fact that mother nature chucked everything she pretty much could at us weather-wise only added to our vulnerability. Wouldn't have missed it for the world!

New members Training
On Sunday Oct 20 the Membership Committee organised an information session for the recent new members of our Club. Held at Director Pat Heffernan's home it involved brief presentations from Julian Warren as Webmaster, and Mike Elliot and Alan Richardson as past and current Club Presidents. The inclusion of some delicious refreshments during the afternoon made for a very pleasant and relaxed 2 hours.
Foundation Auction Evening December 10th
The final meeting for the year is our fundraising evening, a percentage of the funds raised goes towards our obligation to the Rotary Foundation for the 23-24 Rotary year.
The balance is offset against our subscription cost for the current year, so we all benefit from this entertaining event.
Commencing Tuesday 19 November a club members list will begin circulating at our weekly meetings inviting you to indicate what your contribution to the auction might be.
Popular items donated over previous years include, wine, Xmas cakes, holiday vouchers, Xmas hampers, fudge, jigsaw puzzles, vegetables, guided fishing and or boat trips, home baking, bottles of spirits, yoga classes, e bike tours, native plants and so much more.
Please feel free to discuss your donation to this annual event with Don Irvine or Peter Harridge.
The Kahu Youth and Wanaka Rotary Educational Scholarship
The Scholarship is for young people aged between 16-24 years of age, who have been out of school for 6months or more. It is to assist with the cost of qualifications in furthering their career

To confirm your order you will be required to pay $25 per pudding into our Club account (see below) by no later than 26 November.
