To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
Another busy two weeks for the Wanaka Rotary Club. The evening at the Stoaker Room last Tuesday night was an excellent evening with great food, fellowship & an interesting talk from Quinton the owner.
Please ensure that you enter your apologies if you are unable to attend Rotary meetings. We had booked for 45 people at the Stoaker Room & a few people did not turn up.
As of 1 July 2024, the Regionalisation Pilot for Zone 8 will commence. Rotary community groups are being established with the support of a Rotary Community Leader. The plan is for more efficient & technology-enabled administration with key links for clubs to access new support systems. I am sitting in the sun in Christchurch after attending the first conference for District 9999 as I type this on my phone. What an amazing day at Te Pae conference centre. Jennifer Jones, immediate past president & first woman of Rotary International was the keynote speaker, she was totally inspirational & visited 57 countries in the 12 months of her presidency. One of her quotes "In order to live in the kind of society you want, you have to help build it".
I learnt alot & had a wonderful time networking with fellow Rotarians.
Adele Keefe exemplified the theme of creating hope in the world through her story of sexual abuse, domestic violence, prison holidays & her journey of survival & hope. Adele received a standing ovation with may tears in the audience.
We now need to drive home so looking forward to seeing you all Tuesday night back at the Albie.

What a night from our guest speaker, Quintin from the Stoker Room!
From the shores of California to the Love Boat in the Caribbean, Tuna fishing in the States with hours 11pm to 9am catching approx 200 tuna fillets to Lobster fishing - diving for sea urchins in minus 6-8 degrees, 6 hours underwater along the Northern Californian Coast to NZ fishing trips, Stewart Island to Pinot Noir in Whakatane!
To Felton Road land development in 2001 producing a crop in 2004, Wild Earth wines which received the best wine out of 10,000 producers, sold the whole vintage and also claimed the best NZ wine. The Wild Earth complex in the Cromwell Gorge Quintin developed and shared with the public for 8 years.
This then lead Quintin to a journey setting up Stoker Room in both Cromwell and Wanaka where he began the barrel cooking which Stoker Room is renowned for and of which we all enjoyed last night.
At one stage Quintin thought of becoming a dentist but honestly aren't we glad he changed his mind so that we could all appreciate the wonderful food he prepares at Stoker Room for all of us here in Wanaka.

Firewood for sale – lots of dry wood available now. Poplar, apple, some gum, pine/cedar. $100 per metre delivered, but not stacked!! A ute load is three metres (just over actually). Contact Mike Elliot (0274329243 or melliot144@gmail.com) to arrange delivery and quantity
We have this great free driving workshop coming to Wanaka in 2 weeks 10th April and would love to get our attendee list full! we need at least 25 people registered.
