Tuesday 3rd October - President Fran's Message:

Where has the week gone?

I know everyone is BUSY and it’s a multitude of things taking up our time! THANKS for stepping up and filling in the gaps on the rosters for the Duck Race and Book Sale, it makes for stress less days. Saturday morning saw the Goldies (Sandy did tea & cake), Fran T bolting, writing up & delivering Exec ducks about town. A photo shoot took place with the Brown Family turning up in Rotary dress, with a Rotary wheel and smiles. We sat amongst the pigeons, I mean Exec Ducks, congratulating ourselves on another task well done.

Deadline for Apologies, is Monday 8pm #Thanks everyone the apology response has been exemplary!

Coming up

FUNDRAISING

It's the start of a busy fund-raising season. Planning is well advanced for the Duck Race, Sale of Top Soil and Book sale.

Volunteer assistance is required as follows:

1.  Duck Race ticket sales

Assistance is required to tow the duck, located at Wanaka Storage Solutions, to each venue and fully inflate for the sales teams each day, and then return to storage.

2.  Sale of top soil - Scurr Heights

We have been offered the opportunity by Lane Hocking, the developer, to sell a significant quantity of top soil. It is proposed we do this during weekends in October from 10am until 3pm each day.

George Scott has offered to drive the front end loader. We also require the assistance of 2 or more people each day to collect money from customers.

3.  Book sales

The books are being progressively sorted; temporary storage is required in the meantime, to store books until the sale.

Please, if you are able to assist call Ken Goldfinch 021 930 655

GUEST SPEAKERS INFORMATION

Bruce Cowan D.G. Rotary District 9980 - Rotary Guest Speaker 26 September 2017

Bruce gave an enthusiastic presentation on Rotary – Making a Difference.

He told us he had joined Rotary about 17 years ago and told us about the high pressure training schedule he went through in the previous 2 years leading up to becoming D.G.

Bruce expressed his pride at the fact that District 9980 had the highest net gain in membership in New Zealand.

Some facts:

1.239 million number of Rotarians worldwide

112 number of years Rotary has been in existence

220 number of countries worldwide with a Rotary presence

16 million low estimate of total voluntary hours given by all Rotarians

35,660 Rotary clubs in the world

31 Rotary clubs in 9980 excluding Interact, Rotaract etc

Bruce talked about the multitude of projects worldwide that Rotary is involved in. We have come a long way since the first Rotary project……..a public toilet in Chicago.

Bruce spoke of the importance of the Rotary Foundation started by Arch Klumph. We were reminded of the success of the Polio Eradication project and the club was encouraged to meet or exceed the contribution of $150 per member to Rotary Foundation

Bruce reminded us that current Rotary International President Ian Riseley would like every Rotarian in the world to plant at least 1 tree this year.

Finally Bruce reminded us with the use of a very artistic video that Conference next year was between 4 – 6 May in Dunedin.
