Tuesday 19 February 2019

New member talks are always interesting and last week’s talk by Tony Parker was no exception. Tony has certainly had an interesting life in the world of finance and was involved in some important events in New Zealand’s history that we probably all remember. Well done Tony.
We have several people who are very keen to join Wanaka Rotary in the near future. While we have lost seven members to Aspiring Rotary we may end up at the end of the year with the same number of members as we had at the start of the year or maybe even more, which would be a great achievement. Thanks to everyone who has introduced the new members to the club. If you do know of someone who may be interested please bring them along and see what a great club we have.
Please be aware that from this week if you fail to put in an apology for Rotary the Wanaka District Club will be charging Wanaka Rotary for ant shortfall in Numbers. Wanaka Rotary has no option but to then pass on this cost to those who fail to put in an apology on time. A mistake that is easy to make when putting in an apology is to put in the wrong date. Google Chrome on my lap top does appear to have a drop down calendar which does make it easier to apologise for the correct date. We have had a number of apologies being put in for the wrong date and they therefor do not appear for the date that they were intended for. We will be watching for these but may not pick everyone up, so please be careful.
We have directors meeting this Wednesday and so if you have anything that you would like the directors to discuss or have suggestions to make please contact me and I will see that it is discussed. As members we do need to be aware that we have do not have a number of the fundraising events that we have had in the past. If you have an idea, maybe something that has worked in an area where you have come from or have seen in your travels please talk to myself or a fellow director. Without funds we cannot make the difference we have in the past in Wanaka.

Look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday

President George

Big Heart Appeal Collection

Heart Foundation Big Heart Appeal 2018

New World, Wanaka  Saturday, 23rd February

The Heart Foundation’s annual Big Heart Appeal this year is being held on 22-23 February.

Donations will go towards funding life-saving research and providing care and support, education and prevention programmes to New Zealand communities.

Heart disease is New Zealand’s single biggest killer, claiming the lives of more than 6,000 of our family and friends each year.
More than 186,000 Kiwis are currently living with heart disease, with 2017 registering the largest increase in the number of people living with heart disease for the last 10 years. The Heart Foundation is desperately short of collectors for Wanaka.

A number of Rotarians have already volunteered their time to help at New World, Wanaka next Saturday, 23rd February. More help is required!

Please contact either John Huddleston or Nicola Brown to register.

Thank you.

There are 128 small business enterprises operating at Koroipita, mostly run by women, including a boutique factory and honey production in the botanical zone. The Town Council is made up of elected Block Leaders.  They are trained in their role as mentors and guides for the residents, and use the Block Leaders Guide and Manual for guidance.

House has a floor area is 44.m2.  Note that for (the few) larger families of 8 people or more, we add a third living room. There is a covered breezeway separating the toilet / shower and kitchen  block and we add a washtub and kitchen sink , plumbing and electricals .

In Feb 2016 T.C Winston struck Fiji.  This was the strongest hurricane in the history of the Southern hemisphere – with gusts up to 320kph!  We reported zero damage at Koroipita.
