To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
Guess who was coming for dinner on Saturday night has once again been an outstanding success. The feedback & comments I have received has been outstanding, so thank you to everyone who opened their homes & hosted this special evening of fellowship. I understand there may have been a few dusty heads on Sunday.
This week the fund-raising committee are busy getting everything sorted and preparing for the Winter Crop Competition this coming Friday night. I am looking forward to hearing Marty Toomey speak about his Olympic Winter Games experiences & finding out who has the bragging rights for the winners of the crop competition. It will be an awesome evening & no misbehaving on Mr Milburn's bus!
To confirm that there is no Rotary meeting this Tuesday 21 May 2024. Look forward to seeing everyone at the Albie on Tuesday 28 May when we have Barbara Beadle talking to us about her journey from Athlete to Coach.
Change over dinner is happening on Saturday 29 June at the Stoaker room. Alan will provide us with more details in the coming weeks.
Keep warm as the winter weather has arrived. This could indicate a good ski season.

Follow up note from Geoff McLeay on travel arrangements for Friday night's WCC Hawea attendees.
For those travelling by bus to the Lake Hawea Community Centre and return this Friday 24 May the bus will follow the below route.
The main pickup point is the car park on the Wānaka Lake front near Dinosaur Park toilets. To ensure we arrive at the venue on time the departure time is 5:30pm sharp.
The bus will then travel up State Hwy 84, turn left onto Anderson Road, turn right onto Aubrey Road to Albert Town travelling on Gunn Road, then Alison Road and onto State Hwy 6 to the Lake Hawea Community Centre.
We can arrange stops along this route so please text me any suggested stops. At the moment John will stop outside Noelene Pullar's driveway at 561 Aubrey Road around 5:35pm and then near the Albie shops in Albert Town. However, I'm sure there may be other requests from you so please let me know by text.
At this stage the bus should depart the venue for the journey home around 10:15pm and will follow the same route in reverse. But I can hear you say no one wants John to drive home in reverse!

"I have been a teacher at Mount Aspiring College for many years. I started here primarily teaching in Year 7 with an overview of the students with special needs. As the years have progressed and Mt Aspiring's roll has increased, my role has completely reversed. I now teach only four hours a week in the mainstream and the rest of my week is spent supporting students with special needs and the team who work with them. I love my job and feel privileged to do the work I do."

May7th - Kyle Clark: Journey to professional golf
Kyle gave an excellent presentation of his journey from shy boy on a farm, picking up the game to his 2 years on the NZ circuit. Then subsequently knowing Alan Rose picking up a position with Alan at Wanaka. Kyle outlined what was involved in picking up his professional ticket and his enjoyment now coaching others. What was impressive is the time put into coaching children from a young age at Wanaka.

Wanaka Rotary Members Bowling Team.
Richard Gray forwarded an "action" photograph of Chris Wright smoothly delivering a bowl as part of their team of Rotarian bowlers at their latest meet. The team that night consisted of Richard, Chris and Don Irvine. Their first game was a win against Stonewood homes, however a loss to the Lakers followed. Too many wrong Bias's gents? And a late update - a 1-19 defeat??? Sounds like Don should take up Golf.

Each Rotary Year we as members donate $20 to the eradication of Polio around the world.
The following text of an email was received from Rotary Foundation Trustee John Germ from UNICEF thanking Rotarians in our District.
“ As we reflect on 2023 successes, you are at the top of our list of people to be grateful for. Thanks to you and Rotarians around the world for standing with UNICEF once again this year in our mission to relentlessly pursue a more equitable world for every child. With your help, UNICEF was able to achieve the following”:
· Deliver more than 1 billion doses of oral polio vaccines.
· Provide 356.3 million children under 5 – more than ever before – with programmes to prevent malnutrition in all its forms.
· Vaccinate 77.9 million children against measles, over 27 million in countries affected by humanitarian crises.
· Help 39 million people access WASH services in humanitarian emergencies.
· Support 25.2 million children, adolescents, and caregivers access community[1]based mental health and psychosocial support.
Supporting children’s health yields lifelong dividends. Thank you for being there for every child.
