 THANK  YOU

Dear David,
on behalf of the eight year 10 students we send a heartfelt thank you to the Wanaka Rotary Team for their very generous donation to our mission to get to Great Barrier in December. The team held a very successful Quiz night last Friday that was incredibly well supported by our wonderful community.
The team would be more than happy to share our journey with Rotary on our return if you would like.

Roving Rotarian Ravings

Hola amigos

Finally, I have a minute to sit down and write! Patagonia has experienced very late snows, 30 – 50 cms; consequently we have had to switch to Plan B and then Plan C! Thank goodness for the wonderful ‘kiwi’ psyche of my group. The first week was challenging, a mix of relentless rain, single track, mud and snow, some especially long uphills and then some very heart stopping downhills, on ashy, volcanic rock surfaces. Despite the conditions there were still some wonderful vistas, a ‘vent’ of volcanoes and lots of lakes ( very NZ like but a lot BIGGER) to enjoy when we could see. Today we leave Coyhaique (start of southern Patagonia) with sunny clear skies and ride towards Punta Arenas, Ferdinand Majellan country.

Best wishes for the Book Sale, chau for now nos vemos

El Presidente

Senora Fran

PS I am travelling with 2 other Rotarians from Auckland and have noted the many Rotary wheels on display en route.

MY KITCHEN RULES

We are getting to the serious point in the MKR competition where one team gets eliminated every week until the victors are crowned.

Due to the success and great atmosphere created by you awesome Wanaka locals, Trout Bar will be hosting the 1st semi finals featuring the cook off between ourselves and Tash & Hera tonight.

Trout Bar will be providing drink specials and continuing with their generosity by donating $1 to Kahu Youth for each beverage consumed.

We also made 50 deserts yesterday so book a table , have a meal and guarantee yourselve a good view!

Cheers from Chris

BOOK SALE WE NEED YOU!

As you will be aware, the Annual Book Sale takes place this next week at the Lake Wanaka Centre, and planning is well under way to make it a successful event.

However, we do need more helpers to make it a fantastic event! I have had a good response for helpers already, but we need more!!!

The areas of need are:

Wednesday evening at 5.00pm - Lake Wanaka Centre; assistance to set up the tables.

Thursday at 7.30am - Upper Clutha Transport; to load cartons of books and unload at Lake Wanaka Centre. Please bring a bag barrow if you have one.

There are a lot of books to move. And if you have access to some young, fit people, please bring them along as well!!!

PLEASE BE AWARE UPPER CLUTHA TRANSPORT YARD IS AN OPERATIONAL AREA. PLEASE BE VIGILANT AND CONSIDERATE AT ALL TIMES.

Thursday from 9.00am - Lake Wanaka Centre; we need help setting up the books ready for Friday's sale.

Friday and Saturday - Lake Wanaka Centre; Sale opens at 10am until close at 6pm, we need a few more volunteers to help with sale of the books. (Time slots are 10am – 1.00pm, 1.00pm to – 3.30pm and 3.30pm to 6.00pm, but any time during the sale would be brilliant.)

Sunday is another sale day from 10am until 2pm, after which we need to tidy up and get the books left ready to take back to the storage.

From 4.00pm on Sunday - Lake Wanaka Centre; we need as many people as possible to help move and stack the books in the foyer ready for moving on Monday, and also to tidy away all the tables and clean auditorium.

Monday at 8.30am - Lake Wanaka Centre; we need to move the books back to the storage at Upper Clutha Transport and also deliver books to the Recycle Centre – so again, bag barrows and trailers are needed (and young, fit people too!!) to get this done.

There is a lot of work to be done for this project, but it does return a huge amount of money to the Club, but it will only be as good as the effort that is put in, and the effort has to come from all of us and not just a select few.

Please give of your time to help make this the best sale yet!!

Any queries or offers of assistance, just give me a ring or send me a message.

Many thanks, on behalf of the Book Sale Committee.

Mike Elliott
