The annual Rotary Club of Wanaka Book Sale is on next weekend (Friday October 12 - Sunday October 14).

Volunteers have been collecting and sorting books, puzzles and games for the past two months in preparation for the event, to be held at the Lake Wanaka Centre.

Last year’s event raised more than $15,000, all of which was given back to the local community.

Starting small, the book sale has become something locals look forward to attending, giving them a chance to stock up on high quality books at bargain prices.

Club member Richard Wallace said books donated were usually of high quality and in good condition. The large number of donated books also meant organisers were normally able to be selective in choosing which books to put on the shelves.

As well as supporting other community initiatives, funds raised from the book sale will help fund planting and facilities at Rotary Park in Glendhu Bay, a lakeside area near the camping ground which the local club is developing.

The Rotary Club of Wanaka Book Sale will be open 10am-6pm on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th 10am-2pm.
