President Fran's Musings:

Where has the month gone? I spent 30 days mountain biking in Patagonia, the land of glaciers, volcanoes and lakes, just like NZ but on steroids! We were an active, aged group of 5 people, biking this amazing part of the world, in extreme conditions (spring was late in arriving), torrential rain, snow, ice and mud. I’ve become a competent bike mechanic, able to take apart and put back together my mtb in 45mins! I’m back and it seems as if my trip to South America was in another life! It’s always interesting to see a different country and culture. I also noticed Rotary’s larger than life presence in Patagonia – impressive!

On Friday evening, Gary and I attended the MAC Senior Awards Ceremony and were entertained by the talented Kapa Haka Group and other musical items, throughout the evening. The composure of the MC and the Head Girl and Boy addresses, were especially inspiring and I was proud to be part of the proceedings, in handing over the Rotary Scholarship to Ellen Cagney, the lucky recipient.

Thank you George and Margaret for holding the fort during my absence and the Book Sale team for a job well done. 29 more sleeps before Christmas and there’s a lot to do. Don’t forget items for the Foundation Auction, we need more!

Coming up

Fishing Comp, Pig on the Spit 29th Nov, Christmas party 3rd Dec, Foundation Auction 5 Dec & AGM 12th Dec!!

Trade in your old, worn or damaged lifejacket for a big discount on a brand-new, fit-for-purpose Hutchwilco lifejacket. Simply bring your old, damaged or out-of-date lifejacket to the Old4New van, and receive a great discount on a brand-new, quality Hutchwilco lifejacket.

The Old4New van will be coming into Wanaka on 7 January and parking up by the Kai Whaka Pai Café between 1pm and 4pm.

Over 4,500 lifejackets have been traded in over the last three years of the campaign, meaning thousands of kiwis are safer out on the water.
